“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. Blessed are all who wait for him.”-Isaiah 30:18 (NIV)
We’ve all been in that season of waiting. It’s hard. Waiting for time to pass in a season like this can, at times, feel a lot like waiting for your popcorn to pop. You know you’re getting popcorn in the end, that it will fill your present hunger, and that you must watch those seconds countdown before its ready and you can enjoy it. And so it can seem when waiting on the Lord and His promises. But what’s awesome about waiting on God is the reality that waiting time is never wasted time. And even more than that, He rises to show you compassion.
Did you get that?
Picture your King, “who sits enthroned above the circle of the earth” (Is. 40:21 NIV) rising to show you compassion. Unlike a judge in judicial court who rises for no one, and more like a daddy who rises to come to the rescue of his beloved child, your King rises for you.
To show you compassion.
To show you that He is actively working on your behalf, even when all seems quiet.
And He does this because He understands that waiting is not your favorite place to stay—that it’s hard and that His beloved children are not as patient as His original design intended. And in return for your willingness to stay and wait, regardless of how uncomfortable or impatient you may feel, you are blessed.
“Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides You, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.”-Isaiah 64:4 (NIV)
There is no one who rises to come to your aid like your God does. He is not power-hungry, choosing not to expel any energy or resources on anyone under him. He is gracious and compassionate.
And He rises for you.
